Astrophotography Blog's monthly image poll rules and submissions page.
On the first of every month, the Astrophotography Blog opens a poll with new images. For the December 2025 poll the categories are as follow:
December 2025 Image Classes
Planetoids
This class of images include images of any of the following: major planets, dwarf planets, moons of major or dwarf planets, asteroids, exoplanets of any other massive object in orbit around our sun or another star.
Galaxies
This class includes images of galactic structures. Galactic structure is commonly understood as a massive, gravitationally bound system of stars, stellar remnants, gas, dust, and dark matter, varying hugely in size from dwarf systems to supergiants..
Nebula
The Nebula class can be images of either planetary or stellar nebula. Stellar nebula being the massive clouds of hydrogen, helium and other gases that are gravitationally attracted to each other and for stellar nurseries. Planetary nebula are the massive clouds of dust surrounding dying stars.
January 2026 Image Classes
Comets
In honor of interstellar comet I3/Atlas' close approach to Earth on December 19, 2025, we will be including pictures of cometary bodies in our January 2026 contest.
Asteroids
This class includes images of any asteroid class in our solar system. Images obtained either from ground based, space based, or orbiter based cameras are eligible.
Sun
Images in this class will restricted to pictures of our own sun (Sol). Images obtained either from ground based, space based, or orbiter based cameras are eligible.
General Image Contest Rules
- Images must fall into one of the 3 announced categories
- Image submissions must be 500pt X 367pt (WxH) for inclusion on the webpage
- Image format MUST be one of the following: jpeg, png, or webp.
- Images must be submitted via the form at the bottom of this page.
- Submission of images will be taken as a limited waiver of copyright for the purpose of posting it on the APB website.
- Only images related to astronomy will be accepted; no adult or inappropriate material please!
- All images must be photographs, no pure illustrations are allowed although images that are enhanced with false-color and other techniques are encouraged.
- Contest winners will be announced on the 1st day of every month on the Winners Page.
- The winning image each month will join the "Carasoul of Winners" on the Winners Page.
